In a short space of time, we have had another staff member celebrating a milestone in their careers! Bradley B has been with us for a decade now! We spoke with him about his experiences working at Verifier, and his thoughts about the amazing changes he’s seen in the off-site security industry over the years!
What changes have you seen in the broad security industry in the past decade? The security industry has broadened its scope over the past decade in so many ways. We have become more modernized by incorporating CCTV surveillance, Off-site disarming and arming, to name only a few. These modifications have changed the dynamic of the industry by offering more remote security services to the public, a variety to fit each individual's security needs.
What piece of technology do you believe has been the biggest game-changer? (Hardware, software, use of technology, etc.) CCTV surveillance incorporated by A.I. technology has been a game changer. This allows us to train the surveillance on all our requirements, eliminating false triggers, and increasing the alert on true emergencies much faster than before. With a simple click SAPS and any other emergency services can be dispatched.
What changes have you seen at Verifier over your time here? Compared to many other security companies in this industry, Verifier has changed and grown with the times. Verifier is on the top tier!
How has your role evolved over time? We have moved from having only three operator stations at the beginning, to more than seven in a control room at each of our five main control rooms. I started here as an operator and today I am proud of myself because I am a Supervisor, managing a team at Verifier, one of the biggest monitoring companies in South Africa.
Where do you see the industry heading in the near future? The security industry forms part of the essential commodity in our country, we are a necessity, not a want. I believe the need for security will only grow. Crime is always increasing therefore the need for the security industry will never deplete. Human contact has lessened within the industry, it is no longer a requirement to have security guards securing your premises, now all you need are cameras, which can automatically conduct a site patrol. We can look forward to more of these types of advanced technology in the future.
What changes or additions would you like to see happen? We have moved to a more standardized monitoring platform, with the aim of all monitoring done on one platform. I believe simplicity will eradicate most of the issues found in off-site monitoring, and it will also contribute to more efficiency, improved reporting, and a more content control room.
Do you have any memorable or meaningful experiences you've taken from your time at Verifier or working in the broader security industry? It’s more about working at Verifier. Getting my 10 year jacket was a sign of how far we’ve come, and where we’re going.
